Daniel (Danny) MacAskill
Isle of Skye, Scotland
31 years old, 5′ 9″
Danny MacAskill was a mechanic from Dunvegan on the Isle of Skye. Day and night he rode around his hometown practicing everything from flatland tricks to street trial skills. In 2009, after releasing a video on YouTube on his street trial biking, filmed by his flatmate, the world began to notice.
One 5-minute film after another, Danny’s career began to take off and he soon won many big sponsors. His videos are now filmed by professional crews and produced by RedBull media and he rides for Inspired Bikes Ltd.
But what do you get when you take a trick-bike genius and put him on a full-suspension mountain bike?
In 2014, Danny returned to his home on the Isle of Skye and set out to attempt an unforgettable ride to the top of the Cuillin Ridgeline”– a daring climb to a height of 992 meters, which is over 3000 feet.
From the calm, sandy shorline to the heighest point of the razor peaks and back, Danny tackled the infamous, jagged trails of Cuillin on a stock Santa Cruz Bronson with Enve wheel upgrades and a Double Barrel Air rear shock.
Check out this incredible footage of one of Scotland’s most scenic locations and the daring ride of one of the world’s most creative street bikers, turned mountain goat. It’s nothing less than inspiring, and that’s why we chose Danny as our Mountain Biker Spotlight this month.
